This month is full of hustle and bustle and lots of fun holiday parties on 30a. Hosts want to offer nice bottles of vino for their guests without breaking the bank. Many retailers will offer discounts on full cases of wine, which for larger get-togethers, is always a smart way to go. If you are having a smaller gathering and only need a few bottles, we have two suggestions this week: one white and one red. Tis the season and cheers!
J Lohr Estate’s Riverstone 2014 ChardonnayJ Lohr Estate’s Riverstone 2014 Chardonnay is an affordable, delightful sip – bringing a complexity of flavors, textures and acidities to any party. The vineyard’s moderate climate and cool winds off the Salinas Valley extends their growing season and enhances the rich varietal characteristics of the Chardonnay grape. Visually this vintage is a medium yellow hue. It has aromas of strawberry and fresh apple as well as light oak from barrel aging. It would pair beautifully with a lemon roasted turkey or chicken or simply served with your favorite cheeses, olives and crisped crostini.
2013 Layer Cake MalbecA special and festive red we suggest is the 2013 Layer Cake Malbec. The grapes are from the Mendoza River in Argentina and grown in a climate with little rain, warm daylight, and cool evenings. This wine is brimming with dark berries, cocoa, espresso and cherry. It also showcases hints of spice and even the slightest hint of licorice. It’s an interesting choice and will get all your guests talking. Malbecs are very food friendly and can pair with cured meats and aged cheeses like Manchego or even served alongside a dessert course such as with a decadent dark chocolate tart.
