MIRAMAR BEACH – Tequila and Taco aficionados celebrated under a sunny blue sky at Seascape Towne Centre in Miramar Beach March 7. The large and lively crowd donned sombreros and smiles while they sampled tequilas, margaritas and danced to authentic Latin music by the popular band, Meringue 4.
Dozens of different styles of tacos were served, from ahi tuna to classic carnitas from over 16 local restaurants. Tortillas were tossed (for charity) and the Tortilla Toss Champion, Kevin Cornwell, threw a tortilla 217 feet.

It was a colorful celebration of Latin libations and entertainment. The annual event has continued to attract culinary talent to compete in this fiery contest for the Best Taco on the Beach, as voted on by a panel of celebrity judges. The new venue at The Seascape Towne Centre proved to be the perfect place for the festival, which it had outgrown at the previous location on the Destin Harbor.

Best Taco
1. Jackacuda’s Seafood & Sushi
3. La Cocina
The kick-off party was held at Mezcal Mexican Grill on Friday, the main event was on Saturday, and an after party at The Village Door Music Hall featuring a concert by Eli Young Band. The tasty weekend was topped off with a brunch at Acme Oyster House.
“The entire weekend was phenomenal, the weather was perfect, the energy was high. We are so grateful for the support from locals and visitors alike! We could not be more pleased with the turn out,” explained Carlos Shaffran, Extreme Festivals and Events and producer of the event.

This event was a benefit for Fisher House of the Emerald Coast, Inc. A check presentation will be scheduled later this month. The festival organizers wish to thank the hundred plus of volunteers that worked tirelessly to help support the event.
“We were pleased to partner with our friends hosting this fun, annual event,” said Mia Hughes, executive director of Fisher House of The Emerald Coast Inc. “Approximately 120 volunteers contributed a labor of love, and coupled with those who enjoyed the event through ticket purchases, the proceeds will go a long way in keeping our military families together during a medical event at our comfort home on Eglin AFB.”
