Save The Stuffed Animals – She Wants Wine

Written while feeling romantic with Pike Road Pinot Noir
If the red and pink covered aisles in every grocery store, convenient store, and pharmacy haven’t given you the cue, February has arrived, meaning you have 13 days to get your special someone something that signifies just how special they are to you.
You may be tempted to buy the perfect card with the oversized stuffed bear and a dozen chocolate roses. You may be stressing about the perfect place to make a reservation, and you do need to make a reservation, sooner rather than later.
If you really want to hit a home run, wine is the way to go. Not only does it show you have put significant thought into the palate of your loved one, but it shows you aren’t afraid to invest. Is there a wine you enjoyed together on a first date? Maybe there is a label that means something to both of you. A full-bodied red will pair perfectly with that box of assorted chocolates. A highly rated wine is always a good choice as well, or you can dive a little bit deeper.
Champagne bubbles over with celebration. If Valentine’s Day is an extra special occasion for you or you have recently hit a relationship milestone, then bring out the bubbly. And you can guarantee many of our brut producers will provide a perfectly pink label for the holiday.
If you are more into Galentine’s with your girls than a romantic date with a mystery man, a Prosecco or Rosé could be just what you all need.
If you are heating things up at home with a home-cooked meal, look into a Spanish Rioja to pair with your famous roast lamb or that spicy dish you’ve been wanting to try. Start the evening off with a cheeseboard. Almost as impressive as a delectable wine is a selection of high-end cheese.
A Bordeaux or Burgundy will certainly bring France to your dinner table, and will no doubt make your date feel fancy. “Di amor” with a Grenache or Garnacha. If red is not their think a Grüner Veltliner is one of the best white wines to drink with food.
Self-love is just as important. If you are spending this Valentine’s day with your furry friend, pour yourself a glass or two of Merlot, treat yourself to a pint of gelato, and pick out your favorite comedy film.
If you are still feeling overwhelmed, walk into one of 30A’s fine wine retailers and ask for some suggestions. We are lucky to live in a wine-collectors paradise and each store is staffed with very knowledgeable individuals. They won’t steer you wrong, and they will likely have the perfect wine bag to dress up your purchase.
The moral of the story, “Vin signifie amour” (wine means love), and everyone could use more of it.
Cheers. Proost. Sláinte. Salute. Salud.
