Eggs on the Beach 2015
Story by Sarah Murphy Robertson
As I walked toward the Big Green Egg competition, the first thing that hit me was the amazing aromas wafting through the air. Honestly, anyone within a half mile of this event would be hard pressed not to drop everything to attend! This past September 26th was the second annual Eggs on the Beach competition held at Seascape Resort.

This incredible event donates all proceeds to The Fisher House of Emerald Coast. The Fisher House of the Emerald Coast provides a home away from home for military families while receiving medical treatment at Eglin Air Force Base Hospital. This year Eggs on the Beach beat last year’s totals and raised $23,000 for the families of Fisher House of the Emerald Coast!
This food lovers’ contest was comprised of 26 cook teams. I tasted lots of creative dishes ranging from Korean lettuce wraps to crispy pork belly to duck risotto – all prepared using a Green Egg! Of course our 30afoodandwine team’s Creole Italian Stuffed Shrimp was quite the stand-out dish too. (The recipe is on the blog!)
For the second year in a row, top “People’s Choice” fan favorite award and grand prize winner of a large Big Green Egg went to Team InDyne. This year’s winning dish was their brisket grilled cheese and smoked tomato soup. The second place award went to the Emerald Cost Theatre Company with their Jalapeno Pig Poppers and runner-up was Snorri’s Tandoori with Chicken Tandoori. And get this! Emerald Coast Theatre Company’s Pig Poppers also received $500 and the People’s Choice award in the non-profit category.

Exuberant celebrity judges Ray Lampe aka “Dr. BBQ” and Bad Byron of Bad Byron’s Butt Rub, fun live music, and the most perfect fall weather rounded out this event. If you missed it this year, I highly recommend you attend next time. It is kid friendly, the food is plentiful and on point and it’s all for a good cause. Eggcellent.
