Classy, tasty, friendly and comfortable

Award-winning local chef Jim Shirley’s latest area venture, Baytowne Provisions, is situated in
the bustling Baytowne Wharf area of the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort community. The
complex offers a full-service restaurant, bar and general store, which Shirley said, “was much
needed in the Village of Baytowne Wharf.”

Whether dining from the rooftop bar with a view of the marina or stocking up on niceties and
necessities in the market, the establishment has something for everyone and satisfies any
occasion. The space, formerly Graffiti’s Funky Blues Shack, has been renovated and reborn into
a delightful and delectable choice for local and visiting diners.

What started as Baytowne Melt, offering Shirley’s famous melted sandwiches, has now been
expanded to include a full menu of choices, and not a one is a bad selection. In a few words,
Shirley describes Baytowne Provisions as “classy, tasty, friendly and comfortable” and the
hundreds of online reviews agree with those sentiments.

Three meals a day

Breakfast and lunch are served in the Provisions General Store, available as both take-out or
dine-in, and dinner is served with full service in the dining room. Breakfast options include
traditional biscuit sandwiches and breakfast platters, and special favorites tempt the palate, such
as avocado toast and irresistible breakfast bowls. Stop in for lunch specials such as the popular
Mac and Cheese Melt (the name truly says it all) or the Classic American Grilled Cheese.

The true testament to the success of Baytowne Provisions can be found in its impressive dinner
menu. Start the meal with a craft cocktail – which the menu assures “Our bar staff knows exactly
what you need,” – like the Get Smashed (Basil Hayden's Bourbon, simple syrup, muddled basil
and strawberry, and fresh lemon juice), Violets are Blue (Hendricks Gin, Créme Yvette, Blue
Curaçao, Filthy Cherry, and fresh lemon), or the Aphrodite’s Martini (Ciroc Vanilla Vodka,
Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, Frangelico, simple syrup, muddled strawberry, and milk), those
words prove to be true. A full bar is available, presenting premium spirits, craft beer (featuring
local beers such as Grayton Beer’s Fish Whistle IPA or 30A Beach Blonde, and Destin
Brewery’s East Pass IPA), and a fine selection of whites, reds, sparkling and reserved wines
(including the prestigious Caymus Special Select Cabernet and the Joseph Phelps Insignia).

The dinner menu’s starter selection could be meals in themselves, such as Shirley’s favorite: the
Lobster Nachos (six house-made crispy corn tortilla chips topped with guacamole, citrus-cured
lobster, spicy and sour pickled jalapeño and crumbled queso cotija). Or try house-made ravioli
filled with Gorgonzola cheese and walnuts with shaved Parmesan and balsamic reduction; or
New Orleans-style gumbo with fresh seafood and a rich, dark roux served over rice.

Coastal cuisine lovers will rejoice over the various seafood selections, including Shirley’s now-
famous Grits a Ya Ya (made with smoked gouda cheese, spiced Gulf shrimp, cream,
Applewood-smoked bacon, spinach and mushrooms), Asian pesto snapper with crab cake, and
the seafood platter (grilled fish, blackened shrimp, and fried oysters, served with two sides).
Prime cuts of steak are spotlighted on the menu as well, including an 8-ounce Filet Mignon and a
14-ounce chargrilled ribeye with dark cherry gravy, and each are served with sesame green beans
and roasted garlic mashed potatoes.

What might be called the “lighter side” on any other menu is full-bodied at Baytowne Provisions,
with the salad menu offering a Miso Caesar (romaine, fresh Parmesan, classic garlic dressing
infused with miso and balsamic vinegar, and garlic croutons. The Caprese has locally grown
heirloom tomatoes, fresh burrata mozzarella, basil and balsamic reduction.

The “Hand Helds” menu portion may as well be called “Hold with Both Hands,” featuring sauce-
dripping burgers and toasted sandwiches oozing with special flavors. The Bomber Burger, made
infamous at Shirley’s The Bay restaurant, has earned its place on any menu, with two 4-ounce
beef patties, caramelized onions, bacon, provolone, Bomber sauce, romaine and tomato. The
Fried Brie Burger is a foodie dream, with fried brie, caramelized onions, bacon, micro radishes,
soy marinated tomato and zippy sauce. Southern staple Po’boys are offered with fried fish,
shrimp or oysters, and the Smokin’ Turkey Sandwich is anything but your average turkey
sandwich, made with Pepper Jack cheese, smoked turkey, bacon, avocado, and Albuquerque
sauce, “toasted to perfection.” Younger diners will be satisfied with a children’s menu that offers
favorites like chicken tenders and a grilled cheese.

The General Store offers much-needed items such as coffee filters, diapers and dish soap, but
also features local treats from The Honey Hutch, 30A Olive Co., and Destin Coffee.

Baytowne Provisions is located at 109 Cannery Lane in Miramar Beach (in the Village of
Baytowne Wharf) and takeout orders can be placed by calling 850-460-7866. Breakfast is served
each day from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. More
