3 for 30a- Summer Heat Wave!
By Natalie Haddock
This week the heat has been high and the humidity heavy, it is summer after all. How do you prefer to beat the heat? Do you find relief with a quick romp in the waves, or maybe relaxing in the AC, indoors and kicking back? How about a cold beverage or some ice cream? This week’s installment of 3 for 30A is for all of us loving a good summer sweat, and loving the cool down even more.
Friday, July 17 – Feeling like a Cat on a Hot Tin Roof? Yes, please! Watercolor’s exclusive beachfront restaurant, Fish Out of Water, is serving up this specialty cocktail every day as the sun goes down. A chilled mix of Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, lemon, mint, and jalapeno make this martini the perfect combination of sweet and spice for a summer evening overlooking the Gulf shore. Had enough heat for one day? Forget the jalapeno and sip on the invigorating Thyme to C-U. This cocktail is available with or without gin, but includes cucumber puree, lime juice, thyme, and citrus soda; it’s the perfect southern summer sipper.
Saturday, July 18 – Saturday is beach day which means we are looking for a lunch that is nutritional and light. Chanticleer Eatery in Grayton Beach offers crisp salads and signature sandwiches that are refreshingly filling. The Southern Summer salad is everything you would hope it to be – mixed greens piled high with juicy orange pieces, strawberries, blueberries, apples, onions, gorgonzola cheese, and candied pecans. Be sure to try it with their orange ginger vinaigrette dressing. Feel free to stay true to the classics like BLT sandwiches, the club sandwich, or a tuna salad mix, but don’t be shy about ordering a Chanticleer Fresh and Spicy Southwest Salad with grilled chicken, black bean salsa, and fresh avocado. Lunch is available 11-3 Monday through Saturday or stop in for dinner 5-9 Monday through Friday.
Sunday, July 19 – It’s been a wild hot weekend sipping cocktails and playing on the beach so why not treat yourself this Sunday to a cold ice cream cone at the Blue Mountain Beach Creamery, arguably one of the best ice cream shops around! This locally owned and operated sweet shack serves up fine artisanal homemade ice cream, hard pack yogurt, and sweet non-fat, non-dairy sorbet. Ice cream flavors vary but favorites have included the Superman, Red Velvet, and of course Chocolate! Stop by in the early afternoon or late evening to avoid the lines, but if you find yourself waiting, just chill out because the Creamery will have you cool in no time.
