3 for 30a National Clean out the Fridge Day!
By Natalie Haddock
I recently found out that this Sunday is National Clean Out Your Fridge Day. “What an obscure holiday”, you may think. I admit I found it a bit un-relatable myself, but as I read on about this curious holiday, it began to make sense. There is an abundance of food expected with Thanksgiving and Christmas on the horizon, and it is good to have the fridge prepared for leftovers. This week’s installment of 3 for 30A touches on that idea of seasonal abundance, listing a few favorite places that not only fill you up, but also have you restocking that fridge faster than you can say “gobble gobble.”
Friday, November 13th – Once you’ve cleaned out a few “moldy oldies” from the ice box, you might need to restock a few essentials. Skip the superstore and jot over to Modica Market in Seaside. This gourmet grocery store offers fine conveniences like fresh baked pastries, bistro sandwiches, tap beer, bottled wine, and all the snacks and beverages one could need for a life by the beach. “It is an eclectic mix of cuisine, libations, and culinary essentials.” Lunch specials are offered throughout the week and this Friday is a fried grouper po-boy with chips. Yum! Uncooked free-range turkeys are also available for your Thanksgiving feast so be sure to get yours before November 15.
Saturday, November 14th – Some of you may have heard of the tucked away little gem of a restaurant known as Chanticleer Eatery in Grayton Beach. With its shady outdoor seating and creative southern-inspired menu, this place is comfy, casual, and simply delightful. The large menu boasts considerable variety, but at this time of year you mustn’t skip the Unbrielieveable Eggrolls. They are served hot with melty brie, sweet cinnamon apples, red onions and bacon, all wrapped up and lightly fried. And yes, if you want that in a sandwich size, you will be bringing home leftovers. Chanticleer now offers a full bar and is open for lunch and dinner most days.
Sunday, November 15th – When I think of Sunday brunch and seasonal abundance, I can’t help but mention Another Broken Egg in Grayton Beach. It seems like no matter what you order, omelets, benedicts, skillet creations, sandwiches, or even a salad will have you filled to the gills and ready for an afternoon nap. This holiday season Another Broken Egg is serving Pumpkin Bread French Toast. Thick slicked pumpkin bread is battered with egg and grilled French toast style and topped with pumpkin cream cheese icing and cinnamon dusted whipped cream. Healthier options are available too, but let’s not worry about that until New Years, agreed?
