3 for 30a – Summer and Memorial Day Weekend
Story by Phil Heppding
Each week the team here at 30a Food and Wine brings our readers and followers our best picks for “3 things to do on 30a” for the weekend. Given this is the kick off to the summer season here in paradise, we decided that three just wasn’t enough.
So get ready for a fun-filled weekend here in paradise.
Be sure and stop by the Hub on 30a this Saturday for the Backyard Memorial Day Party. The festivities start at 1PM and you can expect live music all afternoon and into the evening from the likes of Courtyard Saints and Hugh Mitchell & New Orleans Friends. Memorial Day weekend wouldn’t be complete without some great bar-b-que. Local Smoke in tandem with guest pit masters will be serving up BBQ plates. Pair with a craft cocktail or a frozen drink from the bar and your afternoon is set!
One of our favorite events of the year takes place Sunday evening at 7:30pm in Alys Beach. The Sixth Annual Sinfonia Goes Pops takes place under the direction of Maestro Demetrius Fuller under the palms at the Alys Beach Amphitheatre. Cash bar and food vendors are available during the event and don’t forget low-back chairs for some comfortable seating. Finish the night off with a “Stars & Stripes” fireworks extravaganza.
Can’t make it out to Alys Beach on 30a for the fireworks? The Village of Baytowne Wharf provides kid’s activities fro 6-9pm with Coconut Radio on the main stage. Don’t leave early folks! fireworks kick off at 9:15PM sharp.
Cap off your Memorial Day Weekend with the inaugural Beer & Butts Cookout at Shades Bar & Grill on the east end of 30a. the fun starts at 12PM and guests can sample brews from Kona Brewing Company and choose from the smoke pork, sausage or ribs to go with the traditional side items such as potato salad, slaw and baked beans.
